Irish Dance Oulu is a constantly growing group of dance enthusiasts, ranging from those who attended the first ever Irish dance workshop in Oulu in 2006 to those who have discovered Irish dancing more recently. The group began practising regularly in 2011 in addition to the intensive workshops which continue to take place several times a year. The group's first official performance took place on St. Patrick's Day 2012 and the dancers are constantly working on more material for performances.
In addition to performances, the dancers are often seen at the live Irish music events in Oulu, dancing céilís, trying out solo steps and generally enjoying Irish dance in the best possible way: in the company of good friends, accompanied by live traditional music. The group also often arranges opportunities for audience members to learn steps and join the fun during concerts.
In 2012, Irish Dance Oulu attended their first competition: the Nordic Feis in Tampere. Four dancers took part in grade exams and competitions, collecting a 2nd place medal for the beginner's light jig.
